1. C900 odometers are not the most durable in the world. The last 3 of 4 had odometers that died (the only reason that #1 didn't fail is that the car got totaled after only 2 months of ownership.) The plastic worm gear that drives the odometer shrinks, cracks, and loses its grip on the metal shaft that it's cast on. Sometimes it grips and drives the odo and sometimes it doesn't. The only cure is to have the unit repaired by a good odometer shop. If you're mechanically inclined (as opposed to being mechanically reclined, which is another thing entirely) you can remove and replace it.
2. No formula. The slippage is pretty much random and is somewhat dependent on temperature of the gear and the degree of cracking of the gear.
It's not quite as easy to hit the correct mileage with broken 6-digit odometers as it was with 5-digit odometers . With 5-digit units, you'll be right once every 100k miles. With 6-digits, it's once every million miles. Your best bet is to either get it repaired or get a repaired unit from a rebuilder.
