You put it in through the transmission oil dipstick tube.
There should be a drain plug on the bottom of the transmission, almost in line with the drive axles. It'll look like a flat puck, about 1/4" thick, with a 3/8" square hole. It will take a lot to break it loose.
Smell the oil - if it smells sulfury, it's gear oil, but otherwise, it's good old 10W30.
With it being low on oil, you'll want to put oil in, drive it for a day or 2, drain and refill to get whatever particles are in there out.
Look for leaks, too. One prime location is the primary seal (where the shaft from the clutch goes into the transmission) - you'll see puddles under the drain hole under the bell housing.
