It's a big, time consuming job to do just to clean the engine bay out. i'd say wait until there is some mechanical reason to remove the engine ie tranny rebuild, engine work, and then have it cleaned at the same time. Alternatively, plan removing some of the components around the engine so you can get at the walls and the bottom of the bay. then stick a pressure washer wand down there after soaking with degreaser. there are some good posts on the topic so do a search. one fellow put a grass sprinkler under the engine after spraying degreaser. lots of ideas like that.
