yeah, i was all ready to spend the morning today fixing the leak. i figured i would put the bit in the drill first and see if it would fit before i got into everything heavy. good thing i did, saved an hour or so and some profanity. well, didn't save the profanity when i realized i had to continue listening to the damn leak for a while.

are angle drills expensive? worth purchasing? i guess i could do it by hand and just use the same wrench used for the tap. i should have listened to you before when you said to helicoil all the studs on the exhaust while the engine was out...:) you told me so.

otherwise, the tuning is coming along. i have a wideband sensor on the way, turns out it will be cheaper than putting the car on the dyno for a few hours. plus it gives me the flexibility to make changes. the car is really strong on only 10-13psi. it will be downright scary when i tune it up to 20psi. i have gone with the 9000 clutch as i couldn't keep the stock 900 ones in the car. also put the 115 amp 9000 alternator in yesterday. mine was going bad and this may help stable things out with the battery in the trunk. i did have to clock the alternator housing 90 degrees though. the studs for the leads from the starter and battery were positioned to rub on the coolant reservoir hose. not a big deal. all set. now i run a solid 14.0-14.30 volts when at idle, instead of 13 or so with the old unit.

also found a source of squealing when hot. turns out the key on the old alternator shaft had sheared off allowing the pulley to slip under load. another problem solved.

anyway, any problems running with the helicoil inserts for the exhaust manifold? i may go with the short studs all around as anders mentioned it seems to prevent loosening and drifting of the gasket. we'll see.
