If you were happy with a 900 you'd really like a 900 convertible. BMW's are nice cars but I don't particularly like the late 80's early '90 325's. They aren't that fast and have a very cold, plasticy feel to the interior. The tops are thin with a plastic rear window that scratches/fogs quickly, and they are absolutely terrible in snow if that is an issue. The newer body style 325s are better but very pricey compared to Saab convertibles of same year/mileage. The 325 engines tend to get an oil leak inside the timing belt compartment, so have it checked. I had a belt break at 62,000 miles--it was supposed to be changed at 60,000--very expensive. The Saabs are a little creeky/rattly but have a nice snug top and are superb winter cars. I think the Saab styling is timeless/classic and holds up much better than the earlier BMWs.
