I'm in the car business and specialize in European and Japanese cars in the $2,000 to $10,000 range, which means our cars usually have bewteen 70,000 and 150,000 miles. Peoples' impressions about which cars are reliable and which aren't are based on so many variables that it impossible to draw any conclusions. As an example, a lot of people who buy Japanese cars new think they don't have to do any maintence because they are so reliable. And the truth is you can buy one and do nothing to it and if you get rid of it by about 90K you'll think "what a wonderful car." What you don't see is all of the crap that goes wrong very quickly thereafter. I do see it. Every single thing that goes wrong with Saabs on this site also goes wrong about the same time with any Japanese or European brand you can name. I see Hondas and Toyotas that are shot at 100k and yet the other day I drove a Jeep Cherokee (not even the Grand Cherokee) with 210,000 miles that looked and drove like new. There are just too many variables to categorically say any one car is bad or good.
