progressed to swapping CV joints, then repacked inner drivers/tripod jts & new boots, then thought I should replace flange seals while I was there. Have to redo flange seal & outer ball bearing (RH side - how did you know? ;)), done by mech, as has visible grit/debris, and stub axle is rough in movement.
I didn't pay close attn to the original roller bearing cup seating in the housing, but the oil control insert now has substantial play - where it was indeed virtually pinned before - and housing's current oil residue/cup lines don't appear to match previous. I did mark the shims.
Just seems odd why roller bearing cup would have been removed/replaced in housing at all - maybe as a workaround on the outer ball bearing and oil control insert lip
