My original 82 8v n/a had a terrible cool startup problem (even with a clean engine/components and no vac leaks) because of this exact issue. It seemed to help for a time with a new O2 sensor, but only a little better. Then I noticed how smooth the car ran with the O2 sensor disconnected during that warm-up phase. Armed with only that information, I devised a manual O2 sensor kill switch and mounted it within the dash, coupled with an annoying led light when the switch was in the "kill" position. Problem solved. After purchasing my "new" 82T, the cold start was not quite as bad as the previous n/a. I've also since become far more SAAB savvy regarding 8V CIS engine maintenance (plus the problem avoidance insights such as the black tip replacement) which has helped avoid the extremes. The one cold start problem that remains in cool morning temps - a temporary lowered idle with a mild idle hunt - is within my range of tolerable. The next step is the manual kill switch.
