and got .625". My pinion gear is engraved (not stamped???) with +11, so I require a distance of 15.11 mm, or .595" Thus I need .030" of shim. I am so confused, because I swear no shims were in place when I took it apart, and I've looked everywhere around where I did the disassembly. I did have .020" of shims on the nut side (crushed), which makes sense, as I measure 7.667" from the nut to primary flange. Thus if I put in .030" of shims at the housing and my .020" of shims on the nut, I'll be at 7.677, the min spec.
So let's assume the tranny was rebuilt (my synchros do look too new) and they forgot to put the .030" of shims back... in your opinion(s)do I rebuild without the shims or buy the shims and put them it. The manual says not to fix after 6,000 miles, but this seems like a big error. I've had the car for 34,000 miles.. so at least that much is on the diff gear.
Thanks again,
Jeff
