I could be totally wrong here, but I was once told that when a car with fuel injection runs out of gas, there are extra steps needed to get the gas flowing into the engine. Sorta lik priming it. Apparently this wasn't an issue with carbuerators. Anyway, I have no idea what the extra steps are. Again, this was told to me 15 years ago, so the knowledge is old.
