GOOD News! ..... now what's the bad news?

After losing coolant for months with no signs of a leak, i finally found dripping from under my car. I consider this good news because i THINK i can now rule out a head gasket.
If you look from under the car, there is a window near from the front of the engine on the driver's side that allows you to see the flywheel (i think that's what it is... big wheel with gear teeth on it). The leak appears to be starting at this 'window' and trickling down the side of the engine. This same thing happens on the other side as well, so i'm assuming it's some sort of gasket/seal inside that area.
Based upon my description, can anyone make a guess as to where my problem lies and what i'm looking at to fix it? Is it a DIY job or one for a professional?
I don't drive too much, so if it's a BIG job, any harm in letting it go, keeping an eye on it, and continue to top off the coolant when needed?
Thanks!
