I've always been able to fix my various mouse belt issues with the help of the following things:
o Bentley wiring diagram of the passive belt system (Don't have a Bentley? Shame on you :-)
o The info on the following TSN archive links:

The ECU is under the back seat. Unplug it and test on the wiring harness. I test each sensor and motor using the above data (all you need is a multimeter) and then I jumper the corresponding pins (using a small jumper wire) to test the motors. Using this procedure I've always been able to figure out the "bad" part..
I don't particularly like them either, but I'd like to keep my car as close to original as possible...
The pic is of my (only) car with the dreaded belts...
