Do a search of the archives on 'rolling-in' a timing chain. Check both the 900 and 9000 boards.
In rolling in, you remove the valve cover, remove a pin from the existing chain, attach the new chain, and turn the engine over. DOne right, the new chain rolls in, and the old one rolls out. When the new chain is fully in, you remove the old chain and put in a special link.
Yes, there is more to it than that, but that's the basics.
Of course, if the chain is tired after 223K miles, I expect that the sprockets and chain guides are, too. A new chain with worn sprockets won't be quite right, and it'll probably wear faster with worn guides.
If the problem is a worn chain, then rolling in is a very viable approach. It won't totally 'fix' the engine, as there is other wear. But it's a start.
