Swapped ECM, now what?

Hello:
What would cause my 89 spg to barely run after replacing the ecm? The car will start and barely idle, almost no throttle response, dies immediatly upon load, then run fine. Here's whats going on:
-- began with a no start condition (car would run if Fuel Pump Relay contacts were held shut). I replaced the Ignit control Module, no effect, and did every relay and ecm test in bently, and concluded that I had a bad ecm.
-- bought used ecm (supposedly off running car) Car started right up.
-- put everything back together, car ran but stumbled off idle for the first couple of blocks, then ran fine. idled and accelerated well.
-- turned off car for 1/2 hour, came back and it would barely idle. I poked around under the hood looking for something obvious and found nothing. unplugging Air Mass meter did nothing. Suddenly, the idle smoothed out and the car ran fine for another half hour. Check engine light extingished
-- Let car cool down for a hour, and its doing the same thing again.
Am I looking at another bad ECM? Overlooking something obvious?
