The E-brake lever should be removed, the cavity cleaned out and packed with some of the grease of your choice, the lever sanded smooth, and new seals installed. Then the fix will last a few years.

Been there, done that many times, most recently a week ago. In my case, I had no confidence in the caliper. The back piston seal was stretched out of shape and packed with crud underneath, so I replaced the caliper with a debuilt unit from Advance Auto Parts. Guess what, the caliper E-brake cavity was clean and dry. No wonder people wind up replacing calipers every year b/c the e-brake sticks. It needs lube to keep it working well, and the seals to keep the lube in. Maybe I'll get to use those seals on the other side (It's caliper was from a different generation, judging by the gold paint).
