Today the market use only C/V joints for 88-89 even when replacing 81 and newer C/V joints. Those newer C/V joints doesn't have the groove and nut that you deform with a chisel and hammer, but a lock nut that self lock when tighten to proper torque.
It is a chance that you damaged the wheel bearing by that loose nut, but if you don't have any play or noises now it might be ok.
If the nut would have been loose several turn, the wheel bearing had been destroyed by now, 100%.
