ok -- just went out to do some more trouble shooting. Started the car and the lamps were still on. I again re-seated the three sensor connectors on the master cylinder and opened the resevoir tank to check the consistency of the brake fluid -- pretty dirty, it needs changing. Anyway when started the car again the lamps went off . . . weird. Has anyone else seen such behavior? Generally, my Saabs have been pretty consistent -- somethings boken -- it stays broken. This is in contrast to my wife's Jaguar which is haunted by the ghosts of lucus. . .
