There's a round black metal globe right next to your brake fluid reservoir. It's jokingly called 'the bomb' or 'the grenade.' It's the pressure accumulator for your ABS. It's supposed to store pressure so if you have to do a bunch of braking really quickly you'll have the pressure stored up to do it, otherwise the ABS pump wouldn't be able to keep up with the pressure demands.
There's a diaphram that goes bad eventually. Symptoms are as you describe: When braking, ABS light AND Brake fluid light illuminate briefly and when you check the fluid level is is fine.
This happened to me and a replacement accumulator fixed it. Make sure your new one has the o-ring on the threaded shaft. If not, you can fit one on there, it's a metric sized o-ring.
To get it off I bought a big hexagonal fitting that fit on my socket wrench. You could also probably use one of those oil filter wrenches. Mine was tight. Before removing, pump the brakes (with the engine off) about 40 times to get rid of as much pressure as possible. That will keep you from getting a brake fluid facial.
As the accumulator gets worse, the lights take longer to go out and illuminate even upon light braking.
