1990 SPG with 120k.

Classic. First day we hit 90 degrees, I try the AC, and it won't work. zip, nada. When I got the car 2 years ago the compressor crapped out so my local indie dinged me for 1500 or so. I got a compressore, bypass valve, rcvr/dryer, and who knows what else.

Fuses are OK.

I swapped in known good switches and relays from my 1994 C900TC. They work in the ragtop. The SPG switches and relays work in the ragtop. I'll rule those things out.

The compressor clutch won't click in. I don't know if I checked voltage right, but I put the positive probe to one of the wires coming out the top and the negative probe to the chassis. I didn't get voltage to the compressor measuring this way. When I checked resistance I got 3 Ohms. Maybe I didn't measure right.

I got no voltage to the fan on the righthand side of the car. Perhaps my aligator clips didn't attach properly, but the fan doesn't come on when I hit the A/C button. I am pretty confident that fan isn't getting voltage.

So, what do I check next? Time for a recharge? Leak check? Possible electrical gremlin? Time to take it to a pro?

I had a 1 year warranty on the system, and it was up a year ago. How long should a fresh A/C system last with 134a?

Randy
