1989 Turbo Manual Transmission woes.

I bought weeks ago through ebay a 1989 Saab Turbo, RHD, dark blue with red (dark red) leather interior. AC, electric sunroof, Coupé. 92,000mls on the clock. Two owners from new, history. No visible rust, wasn't driven in winter.
So far so nice...
As the Saab has Manual 5-speed Transmission I'm in troubles. IMHO it seems difficult engaging and disengaging the Gears. Clutch was done 2,500mls ago at Wimbeldon Saab Workshop. One of the best workshops in England for Classic Saabs I was told.
A friend of mine drove the car - and he was happy about the power and the tranny.
I have no experience with 5-speed transmissions, never drove a car before with more than 4 gears. And I can't compare the Mini with a Saab.
Is there a chance getting the troubles solved? Or should I switch to a Automatic transimission?
The Saab is driving me mad, I can't enjoy the power without thinking and trying again and again changing the gear. It feels so spongy (clutch is hard, firm and fine) while changing the gears. Like an old 450,000kms Mercedes Manual Gearbox. (Infamous for 'bad' gearboxes on older Mercedes like the W 110/108/123).
Or is there a trick about changing the Gears? Specials for a Saab Turbo?
