buy the parts on-line from a sponsor. remove the old stuff, kinda remember how tight everything was. Install the new stuff to the proper torque. Try to keep the dryer exposure to the environment to a minimum. Bentley's should have the oil amounts that you need to add to the dryer. No special tools, unless metric wrenches are special! With the system tight you should be able to add r134a to the low side of the compressor. I can't remember if you need to jump the low pressure switch to get the compressor to spin or not. Get a thermometer for the center vent, you shouldn't have to add much more than 2 cans.
Its been a while so hopefully others will correct my mistakes.

PS - Even with a new a/c I would still drive thru the desert at night in the summer. Much less stress for all involved.
