when loosening the hoses from the evaporator be sure to support the evaporator nuts very well(both sides) or you can twist the copper evaporator tubes beyond recognition...best to have a helper. Then you take off the plastic housing so you can get to the expansion valve. Pay attention to where the temp module goes and try not to tear up the insulation that goes around the capilliary tube so you can reuse the stuff.
I forget the places that orings go...the only ones I can remember are at the hose fitting to the compressor. These are an simple replacement.
it is easy to think that you are tight enough on the receiver dryer hose connections. Keep going until you hit a dead firm stop. I was afraid of over tightening and didn't get it tight enough...another $70 worth of r-12.
Come to think of it, since your system is only two years old, you might get by without replacing the receiver dryer. While replacement is recommended any time the system is opened and they claim that exposure to the air will destory it, I'll bet you could get by. If you do decide to skip the receiver dryer, you will save alot of time. A bit of contortion is required to get to the receiver dryer connections. Part is under $30 from sponsors..your call.
