death, but......First, an admission. I'm a do it yourselfer! Not a "real" mechanic. (I can see Anders' eyes rolling.) I would not pretend to have the knowledge or experience of Anders ( I hold him in very high esteem, by the way) or any other professional mechanic who contributes to this board, but I know virtually every inch of my car and am regularly underneath it for one reason or another. I do not have a Saab mechanic. In my area, there are no Saab mechanics. Arrogant as it may sound, I am confident that I know more about this car than any local non-Saab mechanic and, I am just as confident that most Saab mechanics (much less non-Saab mechanics) would not have seen any "Tell-Tale" cracks without removing the arm. Rust in the crack reveals that the crack, until Saturday night, only existed at the edge and, in fact, underneath the edge of the weld bead. It would have taken a most diligent inspection to discover that. Un-realistic in my opinion that even you Anders would have seen it.
Thanks to all of you for obliging my rant. I still think there's no excuse for this. I intend to replace both arms with new Scanwest and will unabashedly recommend the same to anyone that's willing to listen to me. I DO think everyone should rush right out and buy new control arms.
Regards,
Ken
