I get the same noise under the same circumstances (clutch in no noise,clutch out noise in neutral)-I attributed it to the 3 primary drive chains being stretched similar to what happens with the timing chain in the engine or possibly the tensioner for the chains not working correctly. I am not sure if this is an actual failure (maybe someone else can comment) but seemed plausible to me. Figured I would take a look at it when I do an eventual tranny rebuild due to the previous owner's lack of care/understanding of anything saab. I don't know if the noise happens in gear or not since the engine's rpm's more than drown out any of the rattling noise audible in neutral.
