if you are going to tackle this job for preventative reasons, you may as well pull the axle and replace the CV boots if they're the originals (fill the inner boots with synthetic or other hi-temp grease; the outers get the standard stuff that comes with a CV boot kit from a sponsor. Replace the 32mm axle nuts; they're single use (or, at least, slather on some locker goo if re-using the originals). use a BFP to get them off initially, & torque them down when done.
also, replace the bushings (boge @ sponsor sites is OEM) for both lower arms and the two on the passenger side upper (they take abuse from exhaust pipe heat). Driver side is too much trouble. replace the lower shock bushings, too. inspect the pass. side motor mount; if it's toast, replace it--you have to remove it anyway (good tip i got here was to loosen front mount when jacking motor to remove it, per Bentley instructions).
hell, throw on some new sway bar bushings while you're down there, too. in fact, if you haven't done it yet & the car is clunky, you may as well replace all the ball joints & the tie rod ends; cheap when diy.
when done, get an alignment from saab-knowledgeable shop: zero (or just a touch -- 1/16) toe, neg 1* camber, max spec caster. will transform the car's handling.
if ya want, search my old posts for more info on this stuff...
