In last week's episisode of the 1990 SPG with dead AC...

2 years ago an indy did new compressor, rcvr/dryer, hoses, exp valve, etc and converted to 134a. $1600

It's dead now, shorting the pressure sensor at the rcvr/dryer lets the compresor go.

The deal looked at it and said it leaked out, and $600 would put me in business (parts, labor, 134a, tax). They also noted that the compressor fittings were wrong/missing. I said I'd take it back to my indie and see if they'll make good on their work...

Back to the indie. He asked where the sticker for the retrofit and the compressor fittings were. I said, this is what you gave me for $1600, and he refused to admit it. I didn't argue the point, I said get it working.

They called last night. "well, we charged it up, tested for leaks, and ran it for 40 minutes. Works great". I called and said I'd be by in the morning to get it.

This morning (before meeting with a realor, my vet, and a moving company) I run it to quickly get the car... Bad news. The AC won't work!!!!! They said they'd really ahve to dig into it. You know, the light on the switch doesn't light up. It might be electrical. The whole car has wiring releated to the A/C. WELL IT WORKED LAST NIGHT!!!!!! Did my wiring harness fall apart while sitting in their parking lot?

What to do? I hate to cough up the dealer $$$$, but I hate to have these idiots botch the job.

The service writer may not realize that some of his customers have a clue when it comes to cars and electricity. I'm a EE who works as a consultant in auto plants and have done all my SAAB work since the last A/c fiasco with these clowns. I've learned a thing or 2.

I guess they get one more chance before I get some parts, do the work and have a good friend evacuate and recharge the system...
