Front brake pads change on 1982 900i - SHOCKED!

I bought today new front brake discs (solid, not vented) and EBC Green Stuff brake pads.
Afte a closer look to the front brakes on my 1982 Saab 900i I was shocked: The handbrake is connected with the front brake! Really. Never seen that before on a British Car.
Any special things to observe while changing the discs, caliper and pads? Is the handbrake self adjusting?
Or should I go to a Saab workshop with bad (very bad) feelings in mind? I've a lot experience changing front brake pads/discs but not on a Saab. Very funny construction.
