I've read your posts for a long time without commenting. Well, here it is ... I'll be just as irritating as you are.

You know, Torben, there are hundreds of us who frequent the C900 board. The vast majority of us don't have anywhere near the problems you have with your SAABs. My 4 C900s, all of which I've owned while they were at least 12 years old, have been extremely reliable.

You just got a lemon. You can't blame your headgasket problems on the car just because you had a poor mechanic work on it. So please don't use that as an excuse to complain about the car.

As far as the binding brakes go, why on earth do you expect a car that is 23 years old (23 years old!!!!) to have no worn parts??? Brake calipers are a wear and replace item. Piston bores rust because either the owner doesn't do proper maintenance and/or the rubber parts get so old that they crack and let water in.

SAABs have some well-known problems: the transmissions are too weak for good longevity on 16-valve models and turbo models; 8-valve heads tend to crack; the old-style brakes are subject to rust and water problems. Like I said, these are well-known issues. You live with them or drive something else.

Please drive your Mini, Jaguar, Rolls and your beloved Vanden Plas 4 litre R and sell your SAABs to someone who will appreciate them. C900 SAABs are not in the same league as your beloved high-end British cars. Whether you like the old brake design or not, that's the way the old series brakes are. And if you don't like them, please upgrade them or at least stop complaining about them while you drive your beloved British steel.

And, if you are going to keep the poor things, please buy yourself Bentley manuals for them so you understand how to keep them going.

If you want to complain about an unreliable car, go buy a Lada, a Yugo, or maybe a Trabant. Then see what you have to say about SAABs.

PS, SAABs are Swedish, not British.
