Like Jon says, if your vacuum lines have never been changed while you have owned the car, change them along with the rubber bushings that hold the vacuum nipples into the intake manifold and valve cover. I replaced the vacuum hoses and the rubber bushings on my '89 SPG about 2 years ago. The idle went from up & down to pretty much rock steady.
If I understand you correclty, it dies when you come to a stop. There's a good chance that the turbo bypass valve (hooter valve) has developed a hole in the diaphragm. The bypass valve is located under the distributor. Find the vacuum hose that that runs to it. Disconnect it from the intake manifold and suck on it (or, if it's *really* greasy, have a gullible friend suck on it). If the valve doesn't hold vacuum, the valve needs repacing. See the site sponsors (sobstory.com, eEuroparts.com, etc) for a decent price on a replacement bypass valve.
When you replace the vacuum lines, use 3.5 mm silicone hose. It takes about 15 feet. You can get it from the sponsors or from local speed shops.
