I don't have your MB Quarts. I do have ADS separates up front which include a 4 inch speaker. As the others have stated a 4 inch speaker isn't going to make much bass, plus a head unit that advertises 40+ watts per channel is using marketing to its fullest. The continuous output of most HUs is about 12 watts per channel.
That said, I put an eclipse 4 channel amp in, and even with 6x9s in back, the bass was really never there. It wasn't until I got a 10inch sub with it's own separate amp that I was able to achieve real bass.
It only took me 2 years to heed the advice of some the audio freaks on this BB and put a sub in!
