It's possible that long periods of rich running (like when the engine stays cold for too long) could foul an O2 sensor, but I dunno that it would happen in such short a period of time. Still, it's worth a check and possibly a cleaning of the probe (gently). I'd also worry about the condition of the catalytic converter, since rich running is a sure-fire way to kill one.
