Have you heard the expression "better the Devil you know......." as it applies to used cars? IMHO a new alternator, or alternator repair (capacitor pack) will give you a car as reliable as you thought your 900S was last week, while a "new" Mercedes is a whole new bag of rocks. Plus, wait until you check out Mercedes parts costs....So, unless the proverbial cream puff of early '90s Benz's shows up, or the Saab tranny is on it's last legs, I would give the old Trollhatten machine one more chance..

PS; A radically more distateful option would be a late '90s Toyota Corolla or Honda Civic, pretty bullet-proof stuff there....just completely soul-less
