As a previous GM vehicle owner, these vehicles are commonly equipped with TOO much gauge cluster lighting. My Astro van has six (!)of those little 3 watt instrument panel lamps (18W) I am ususally turning down the panel brightness on back roads. I got sick of replacing the lights so often in this vehicle, which were hard to get to, that I went to LED's. The LED's are a little dimmer, whiter, and never need replaceing.
Still, the problem surfaced when I bought my 900 Turbo a month ago. Moving from that retna-burning dash panel on my van to the SAAB is a major difference. I replaced one of the two 3 watt lamps, but it still does not light the cluster up enough. It simply needs more light! I am planning on going to LED's to solve the problem. Maybe drilling a couple more holes in the back of the cluster to add more LED's for more light. Seems like brighter incandescant lamps are out of the question, since they get too hot, and have a shorter life
