Assuming all the basic tune-up stuff has been dealt with, and if you're doing this by yourself, you've got to go through each component step by step. Vacuum leaks are a major contributor to bad idling. Have you tried the carb cleaner spray test? Are all the components along the intake chain sound? Every component along that chain can cause a vacuum leak if it's diaphram or seals are shot. Gaskets are in place and in one piece? The vac hoses themselves can split. The rubber grommets attached to the intake manifold can shrink and cause vac leaks. The seals around the injectors can shrink and crack with age, causing a vac leak. Maybe the intake manifold isn't tightened to the cylinder head properly. Or maybe the throttle barrel is loose. Are the intake and turbo rubber connections sound, tight and in place? Basically, if your engine hasn't been cleaned or worked on in a long while, all that stuff has to be checked, cleaned and fixed. Then there's the possibility of the timing being off. Then there's the Lambda control unit and the ignition control module. Fuel system control pressure and pulse modulation. Check and clean the wiring connections and inspect the harness insulation. The harness wiring insulation on those older cars has been known to decay. If that's the case the simple problem might be improper grounding of lamda signals, and at worst you could start a fire.
If you're not going to have a pro look into this, then you're going to have to invest some time reading about all this stuff and enjoy time spent with tools and dirty hands. Good luck.
