A quick guess is that the battery might not be charging completely. When you start it, does the battery light glow faintly for a while then, when it goes up to 2,500 RPM, to out?
If that's the case, then the carbon brushes on the voltage regulator have worn down below their service limit and need to be replaced.
Other causes of low battery charge (other than a cooked battery), are bad ground wire between the alternator case and the ground point on the inner fender, bad ground point at the radiator crossmember, and battery terminals that need to be cleaned. Sometimes there's internal corrosion in the battery cables that's invisible until you give the cable a good yank.
Speaking of voodoo, have you tried the old black chicken thing on the electrical system. The neighbors might find it disquieting, but stranger things have worked. <grin>
