I drive a 82T. Before owning this one I had a 82 n/a which had a problem with the harness wiring insulation. I only discovered it after visiting a SAAB shop and seeing the remains of a car that had burnt. The mechanic told me it was a common engine wiring problem, and that's when I decided to peel back some of the black harness covering that runs over the clutch cover. I was stunned to see the insulation flaky and/or missing in sections. Especially worrisome was seeing parts of the main battery wire that runs to the alternator bare alongside other bare wires. Remaining insulation here and there obviously kept the bare wires from touching, but it would only have been a matter time and vibration until something bad happened. As a repair I cleaned away the tattered insulation and wrapped the bare sections with electric tape. My "new" 82T doesn't have harness insulation problems, but it did have wiring connector end issues (corrosion, frayed wiring) that lead to bad grounding and insufficient power for certain component systems.
