If it sounds, looks, feels and tastes like a vacuum leak...chances are it is a vaccum leak...just don't step in it!
And it was! Somehow the vacuum line was pulled off the centre flap servo. This particular servo is a nightmare to get at since it is pretty much dead centre height and width of the firewall. On top of that, it butts right up against the firewall. You can see it from the left speaker grill but you can't wedge your hand in there to get the hose on...way too tight. I had to access it from the passenger side floor well with all the dusting off and even then it a long time to get the hose back on. Now the centre vents almost blast me out of the car.
I have no idea how it came off in the first place but I bet it was due to my messing around with the radio harness trying to reposition it...just can't leave well enough alone I guess.
By the way, I also installed those little rubber O-Rings on the vent spindles...they work like a charm. Now the vents stay where the heck you point them. Some took o-rings on top and bottom but others just needed one.
Ciao!
