1988 900s 4 door 16 valve

I've been having idle problems ever since my father drove the car out here to new york from ohio, which is a 10 hour trip or so. The idle hunts and after shifting into neutral it will dip down to practically stall and then back up to any where from 200-1200 and it will start hunting.

Now we adjusted how far the throttle can close and that seems to have made the problem a little better. It idles at 800 rpms as it should, when after shifting into neutral it usually goes back to idle, every now and then it will dip down to 500 or so and come back up to 800. It also doesn't hunt as often. **Also one thing I forgot to mention in the past is that when we started the car up the alternator/battery light would always come on until we gave it some gas.***

Any ideas?
