Shift coupler VS. New tranny, diagnosis doctor?

Doctor? Doctor.
Doctor. Docter.
Doctor. Doctooor...
Good afternoon, all....
I've spent the last hour or so reading the archives on both these subjects to prevent redundancy, but I need a few second opinions from the MD's in the house.
Yr/model: '89 900S
Milage: 192K+
Sympthoms: Popping out of reverse under load (>.1% grade)
Extreme lateral play in shifter
Ambiguous gear location in shifting
Prior Treatment: Reverse fork flip a la Jeff & Royce and Townsend websites
Other notes: Fork flip worked wonders for a few months, but the results did not last.
The question I propose is this is a singular problem or indicative of two seperate problems. The shift coupling appears to be a relatively easy and inexpensive fix that I would endevor upon. If, however, the reverse is on the way out, I am inclined to sell the old bastard to someone with superior medical facilities as an organ donor.
In the case of a shift coupling, I've noticed from previous posts that aquiring a new one may be difficult. Can anyone recommend a good source and any other parts that could/should be replaced at the same time?
My ultimate goal is to keep this beast for the winter driving and keep the young vixen ('91 900T Conv) off the road as much as possible. Thanks for your help..
Phil
