Removing console w/leather shift boot from convertible?

I've been trying to figure this out for a week now, and have had no luck dispite help from some of you loyal message board readers. I want to remove the center floor console from my '93 convertible 5-speed. I've got the two screws under the rear ashtray out, so the rear part of the console is loose. The front part, however, can apparenty only be removed by removing screws under the gear shift boot. Most other owners seem to have a rubber boot that easily lifts up. Mine, on the other hand, is leather and seems VERY securely attached to the console, sp I can't reach these screws. Does anyone know how to approach this?
