You will want to replace the transmission, too, because the Saab tranny isn't well suited to high power. Fitting all that into a FWD is a pain. I'd post this question over onto the Performance Board, but I'll go out on a limb and say I doubt that there is a V8 that will fit into the present location without a major hood job.
The real "Monster" approach is to yank out the rear seat, and drop a nice RWD powertrain in driving the rear wheels. Much easier to fit everything in, and great access. And with lots of power, RWD is the way to go.
A few folks have done this in the past to scary effect.
A good example was the Renault 5, known in the US as a "Le Car". Wimpy 55 HP engine in a FWD chassis. For the R5, they simply moved the engine into the rear seat and covered it with a box. Of course, that new engine had a turbo and 165 HP driving the rear wheels.
