Hi Lowell-
All th tops seem to wear in the same two major places: 1) Drivers side rear (right along the top bow above the rear window towards the side of the top, where it just starts to curve down) and , 2) the same place on the passenger side!
The top needs to be adjusted, when fitted, just perfectally or it will rub in those places. My top was replaced in '98 and still looks brand new, with little to no wear in those areas. I treat it religously, once a month with 303 fabric gaurd, but wear wise it's like new.
No matter what people say, Saab tops are difficult to fit and you need to take it to someone who really knows them very well. Saab put out advisories that explained minor adjustments over the years, and they do help (esp. on early cars).
I would also never fit anything other than OEM equipment! If you are in doubt that they sold you "the real deal", buy the top online and have a shop install it.
Sorry to hear that you have to go thru it again! The longest I've ever heard of a non-treated, ill-fitting, non-OEM top lasting is five years.
Hope this helps!
