If your top wears in the same place as just about all of them check "Convertible Top Stack Height Adjustment Revision to Campaign 313" in the list of documents at the link below. Specifically to be performed "when top fabric is replaced for any reason" I think adjustments, even minor, are key to minimizing wear.

I wonder if this adjustment should be performed every 3-4 years regardless to take into account of things loosening up etc? The other points people bring up are, no soap on top, no automatic car washes ever (harsh soap dries top among other things), never put the top down when wet ever and use the boot cover (the three pieces of plastic) when the top is down, especially at higher speeds 40+. The only bad thing I do is never use the boot cover b/c it's a pain. I do notice the top jiggles when down above 40 which is probably what cause the wear on my top. hmm Sunday I drove over 400 miles coming home from northern vermont, top down, 70-80 most of the way...I'll trade a bit of wear for a day like sunday in the northeast any day. definitely a top 5 day of the year. ALso see Pat Price's Top Faq in the same list of documents for tips on patching holes among other things.
