Take a big screwdriver and put the handle against your ear(diy stethoscope). Run the tip along the valve cover while it's making the noise. I'll bet you hear the noise near the firewall. If so, the problem is just the damper pad for the cam chain. It is mounted in the top of the valve cover and gets hard over time. Then the chain whacks it and you hear the noise. Just pull the valve cover and replace the pad. you might consider a new valve gasket set while you're at it. The whole fix takes 1/2 hour or less. I'd give Jim at sobstory a call at 800-583-0370 to get these parts for much less than dealer.
Almost guarantee that your oil pump is fine. If the noise is not near the firewall, you might just have a sticky lifter. Try a pint of dextron trans fluid in the oil to disolve the gunk causing the problem.
