The two relays under the dash just to the left of the steering wheel are the turn signal/flasher and wiper interval relays. You can get strange clicking if the turn signal stalk and flasher button switches are bad or a wire is loose. Same for wiper column switch. Try fiddling with these column switches to see if you can make the relays click.
Also, any relay in the relay/fuse box in the engine compartment can sound like it's in the dash because the box is just across the fender bulkhead. Have a helper start the car while you listen to the relays in the box. here I would first suspect the headlight relay, again maybe a problem with the dimmer switch on the turn signal stalk.
Instrument lighting problems are usually loose/dirty contacts on the bulb holders for the two bulbs at the top of the panel. You can get to these through the left speaker hole. Remove both top bulbs and clean off the contacts, slightly bend up the small contacts that directly contact the plastic printed film circuit and give them a shot of wd40. If all the dash lights on the HVAC controls are out, I would first check the rheostat.
If you are burning 5 watt #194 bulbs, you will eventually melt dimples in the instrument cluster, which allow bulb wiggle. Use the 3 watt bulbs that look just like the 194's (#2821 2823??? can't remember number). While slightly dimmer, they won't melt the panel.
