I am going as fast as I was when in 5th, applying the clutch, and moving the gear shifter to 2nd. I'm not looking to let go of the clutch at this point; rather, I'm "readying" myself to let go of the clutch when the car has slowed sufficiently enough for 2nd gear (as in coasting to a red light that's about to turn green, so I might as well be prepared to move through it in 2nd as opposed to stopping and starting out again in 1st). I just don't understand why the gears would grind if I have the clutch applied.
I'm used to the way my '85 Nissan 300ZX shifts, which basically lets you go into any gear you want at any speed without any problems (as long as the clutch is being applied).
