probally on it's last legs. Mine went out at 192K but it had been abused. '88-'93 is good for C900. '88 and '89 have no ABS/SRS like '90-'93 but that stuff can be removed I believe. '89s had some ECU problems but that can be switched out.
If you get a good price you can rebuild the tranny with the big pinion. I had put in the Swedish Dynamics pinion which is bigger than the latter Saab OEM pinions.
If stuff hasn't been replaced on the '88 expect things to start failing but these can be fixed but you should have a good Saab mech and some DIY skills or willingness are very helpful.
If you get a good price it could be a fun project.
Pull up the carpets and look for rust. Get the car inspected if you want to be real safe.
