Hi All,
I have noticed recently (read 20 minutes ago) that my temp gauge is acting funny. I need the forces of SaabNet to help me diagnose the problem. When I got this car I noticed that the temp gauge would occasionally go above 1/2 to just below 2/3 until the thermostat kicked in. Then, I noticed that it would go slightly above 2/3 to about 3/4 and would sometimes quickly cycle down to about 1/4 or sometimes 'stick' there. I figured it was about time for a thermostat change as the previous owner had put in a 87C fan switch. So I bought a new 82C thermostat and temp sender and installed. I bled the system and off I went thinking that I had fixed the problem. Well driving home today my temp needle went back up to about 3/4 and even a little higher for about 5-10 minutes from home.
My question is did I misdiagnose the problem originally. Is it my water pump slowly going bad? Would it cause such temperature swings (by the way what exactly causes the temp to drop so suddenly)? I do notice some noise at startup (squeaking) from what I thought were belts. Any and all with similar experiences please help! The HG was replaced just before I got the car and I don't want to do it again... Thanks in advance,
