It's a little plastic piece on top of the transmission cluth housing. Shine a flash light in there and see if you notice any wetness. If you do, then your slave cylinder's seals are prob. wearing out. If the slave is bad, you might as well do the master as well at the same time. My experience has been that if you replace one, and not the other, the unreplaced end feels neglected and winds up blowing out within 6 months to a year (it's not so much a feeling of neglect as it is the nature of hydraulic components). Naturally, if you replace the slave cylinder, you might as well do the clutch while you're down there. Sounds fun huh?

Your trans is probably fine, but keep an eye on it. Pre '90 trans are fragile and will start to exhibit signs of fatigue by literally whining and popping out of gear. Also, there seems to be some mystery and debate over the risks and benefits of changing one's gearbox oil. Speaking for myself, the past 3 pre '90 900's that I owned wound up becoming scrap metal after the trans. failed. In each instance, the tans failed only after I changed the gearbox oil with something other than 10w30. On 2 cars I put in Honda MTF and one a Mobil synthetic. I used Honda MTF on a '90 and it's still going strong. However, I am now EXTREMELY superstitous when it comes the trans oil. I find it even more interesting that in the later 900's, Saab didn't even bother putting in a usable dipstick (it's usable, but it resembles a bolt nothing that the average vehicle owner would ever think about), and IIRC, nor did the owner's manual mention anything about changing the gearbox oil. So, with respect to changing the trans. oil, I have only observations and experiences, but I don't plan on changing the gearbox oil anytime soon...

Good Luck !!!
