you'll get lots of opinions on this! Posted by saabu [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Clutch, Master, or Tranny... how do you know, thereuare, Fri, 31 Oct 2003 20:50:34 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
having fixed a non-operating clutch this past week for the first time, its fresh in my mind. Here's what i'd suggest:
Easiest/cheapest to hardest/most expensive:
-check hydraulic fluid reservoir
-check pedal pivot point too, as mentioned, then
- bleed clutch hydraulic system, then
- take out and either overhaul or replace master cyl, then
- if not solved, replace slave cyl.
personally i doubt in your case its the slave, as you still have some hydraulic pressure. its probably your master cyl. they are easy to take apart and check for worn seals, worn bore, etc. You'll need a 13 mm crows foot to get the hydraulic pipe connection off, and you'll need it to turn the bleed screw too.
As another poster mentioned, its worth considering a new slave, etc if you replace the master. i agree, because if you wait until your slave cyl blows, you are looking at a nasty job for yourself, and an expensive one if the shop does it. check to see how old your slave cyl is and consider replacing it before it blows.
i had to hacksaw mine out, took me over an hour of hard work.
let us know what you find,
